Understanding review states
A review moves through three states from upload to close: Processing, Ready, and Closed. Here is what each one means and how to move a review between them.
Where you see review states
The Reviews list groups files into three tabs: Pending reviews, Closed reviews and All reviews. Each row shows the review’s current state as a label.
- Processing - Curia is still extracting data from the contract.
- Ready - extraction is done and the review is waiting for you to open it.
- Closed - the review has been marked closed.
Pending reviews holds everything that is not yet closed, so rows in Processing and Ready both appear there.

Processing
A review enters Processing as soon as you upload the contract. Curia reads the contract and pulls out the data the review needs. This usually takes between 5 and 15 minutes and depends on the size and complexity of the contract.
If you must, you can open a row while it is still Processing and click Start review before extraction finishes; however we recommend you don’t do this. Curia will warn you with a confirmation modal before you proceed: starting early means some fields may still be blank when you land on the first tab and they will not be populated automatically.
Ready
When extraction finishes, the row status shows Ready and the assigned user will be sent an email notification. The review is now waiting for you. Open the row and click Start review on the Preflight tab to begin.
A row stays in Ready until you start the review or close it.
Closed
A review is Closed when it is finished or you have decided not to continue with it. Closed reviews move to the Closed reviews tab.
There are two ways to close a review:
- Finalise the review. Clicking Generate Draft on the Finalise tab locks the review fields and closes the review, and you edit and download the report afterwards. On accounts using Legacy templates there is no draft, so Download Word Document is what closes it. See Finalising and downloading your report.
- Mark as closed from the row actions on the Reviews list, when you want to close a review without generating a report.
Reopening a closed review
A closed review is not final. To reopen one, either:
- Click Mark as ready on the row in the Closed reviews tab, or
- Open the review and reopen it from the Finalise tab. Clicking any of the review data tabs on a locked review offers the same thing.
The review returns to Pending reviews and you can keep working on it. Reopening discards the current report draft, but every report version you have already downloaded is kept. See Report versions.
FAQ
How long does processing take?
Between 5 and 15 minutes for most contracts. Larger or more complex files take longer.
Does starting the review early stop processing?
Yes. Extracted fields will not populate your review and you lose the benefits of data matching and prefilling. You can still fill the fields manually and proceed with the review, but we recommend waiting until processing finishes.
How do I mark a review as closed?
Finalise the review on the Finalise tab, or use Mark as closed from the row actions.
Can I reopen a closed review?
Yes. Use Mark as ready on the row in the Closed reviews tab, or reopen it from the Finalise tab.
