Working with synced contacts
How contacts imported from a practice management integration behave in Curia, and what changes when an integration is connected.
When a practice management integration (such as triConvey or Smokeball) is connected, your contacts live in that system, and the integration is the source of truth.
Contacts are synced as they’re needed, for example when you sync a matter they’re a party to, so the Contacts page stays focused on the people you’re actually working with. Matters work the same way. See Importing matters from your CRM.
How imported contacts look
Imported contacts sit alongside any contacts created in Curia on the Contacts page. The Source column on each tab names the integration. The profile header of an imported contact carries a Contact sourced from badge with the integration logo.

What you can do with imported contacts
- View the contact’s details.
- Link the contact to reviews.
Edits and deletes happen in the source system. On an imported contact’s profile, the Edit contact button is disabled, and the tooltip notes that changes must be made in the source system. Imported contacts have no Delete option in the Contacts page action menu.
Once a contact is in Curia, changes you make in the source system flow through to it.
What changes for Curia-created contacts
While an integration is connected, the Contacts page has no New contact button, and creating a new contact during the upload wizard is disabled. All new contacts must be created in the integration. They appear in Curia when you next use them, for example when you add one to a matter.
Contacts created in Curia before the integration was connected stay editable and deletable. They can’t be combined with imported contacts inside a company or trust - a company or trust can only contain contacts from one source.
Deleted contacts
When an imported contact is deleted in the source system:
- If it is linked to one or more reviews, it remains in Curia with a Deleted badge so the link to those reviews is preserved. It can’t be linked to new reviews.
- If it has no review links, it is removed from Curia entirely.
Restoring the contact in the source system brings it back to Curia automatically.

FAQ
Why can’t I create new contacts?
While an integration is connected, contact creation in Curia is turned off to keep one source of truth. Create the contact in the integration, and it’s brought into Curia when you use it.
Can I mix sources within a company or trust?
No. A company or trust can only contain contacts from one source.
What happens to imported contacts if I disconnect the integration?
They remain in Curia and stay marked with the integration as their source. They can’t be edited from Curia, since the integration is the only place those contacts were ever editable.
Can I delete an imported contact directly in Curia?
No. Deletion happens in the source system. If the contact isn’t linked to any reviews, it is removed from Curia entirely. If it is linked to reviews, it stays with a Deleted badge to preserve those links.
